ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS & EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS (Some items marked with * are only available to trained and Certified SD people)
Textbook
- Spiral
Dynamics: Mastering Values, Leadership, and Change * THE Values Profile II (VP2) (available in both paper and online versions)
Dimensions include: ACCEPTANCE
("Like Me") and REJECTION ("Not Like Me") for
each of seven core vMEMEs - Dr. Clare Graves's B-O (Purple) through
H-U (Turquoise) Levels
of Psychological Existence; SACRIFICIAL and EXPRESSIVE focus scores; and an
overall picture of the INTENSITY of vMEMEs within the person. The
pencil-and-paper package consists of a complete three-part test form and
a separate four-page profile sheet and explanatory handout in English,
Spanish, or Dutch language versions. Note: VP II is an updated and improved version of the classic 1986 Values Test devised by The National Values Center, Inc. This new edition improves statements on several of the scales and removes some of the 'false positives' to present more accurate descriptions. We have found that B'O' (Turquoise) and A'N' (Yellow) on the older version tend to be stretches from FS and ER. In addition, some of the BO statements on The Values Test are highly idiomatic and have been improved with this version. The instruments are otherwise essentially the same. Available in both paper and online, auto-scoring versions.
The "classic" 40-item assessment instrument for students of Graves theory. It provides Acceptance and Rejection scores of six Levels of Existence, B-O (PURPLE) through G-T (YELLOW). The self-scoring final page includes a sample profile. Also available in a slightly improved and expanded form as the online Discover assessment which produces automated profile reports. (Available to certified SD people only)
* CHANGE STATE INDICATOR - Order, Chaos, & Change in Turbulent Times The CSI is the first measure of movement through the vMEMEs that produce Value Systems. It yields a flow-state profile of the person keyed to the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and New Alpha states. Additional scales are built around a stability factor (PREFERS ORDER and/or THRIVES ON CHAOS) and FIRST- and SECOND-ORDER CHANGE ("More-of-the-same, but better" and "Reframing for fundamental shifts"). Finally, a FLEX scale indicates one's readiness to accept change or preference to stay within the givens. The test includes a separate Glossary and Change map. (Available to certified SD people only) * Values
Test/Change State Indicator - Administration
& Interpretation Manual
A basic overview of the instruments' design, explanations for interpreting profiles sheets (left), and suggestions for appropriate use, discussion of the limitations of such assessments, and samples of profiles and group averages for comparison. This booklet is also useful with The Psychological Map, Form A. (Available to certified SD people only)
The short 10-item assessment designed for workshop use. The three-page instrument includes a profile for group and individual scores. Popular for seminars, team-building, and shorter presentations where some quick feedback is desirable. (Available to certified SD people only)
![]() ProcessSCAN An excellent and inexpensive workshop tool, the ProcessSCAN gives a very quick but remarkably powerful sketch of left/right (digital/analog) brain dominance. Consisting of only fifteen of the most telling questions from the BrainSCAN instrument, this simple test serves as an "ice-breaker" and non-threatening introduction to a discussion of differences in how people think and perceive their worlds. Includes 2 single sheets, the test form and a profile page with "Strong Points" and "Blind-Spots" for three ranges. Q-MIND
- Exploring the Quantum Mind
This is a more elaborate self-scoring component of
our more comprehensive BrainSCAN assessment system. It is designed for
use in more detailed workshop settings and mass applications where
computer scoring is not practical, but where information about how
people process ideas is important. It is designed to dovetail brain
dominance research with the CSI and VALUES TEST in a systemic overview.
Q-MIND data contrasts DIGITAL and ANALOG thinking ("left"
brain and "right" brain) within four dimensions: ORDERED
DETAIL, ORDERED SYSTEMS, CHAOTIC CONCEPTUAL, and CHAOTIC EXPRESSIVE. The
Quantum Mind profile sheet includes a discussion of characteristics and
blind spots for the various information/energy flows within the
mind/brain/body hologram.
